Track My Watchlist on GitHub

AIC Watchlist on Github

It has been difficult to share my working watchlist with my readers. I maintain it in Stock Rover but there is no possible way of sharing a link to my watchlist page.

I could create a page on the website and add the watchlist table there. Periodically, I can update this table as needed. Seems to be the most obvious solution but has a few drawbacks:

  • It is quite a bit of manual work
  • It won’t give you a historical picture of how the watchlist evolves with time. This is quite important as I may keep a stock in the watchlist for months or even years before acting on it.
  • I would like to maintain my notes on each stock in the watchlist, and these notes grow with time.

I started playing around with Github recently. My goal was to find a way of developing some investing apps that fit our Astute Investor’s Calculus strategy. Github is a great platform to host code and control versions. Then it dawned on me – version control is something that can be applied to more than just building code.

I can use it to host my investment watchlist.

It is still a bit of manual work. I have to upload a new version periodically. Other than this, it takes care of the version control with audit trail beautifully. Additionally, I can create notes on each stock and track it with automatic time stamps. This helps in collecting research material, news clippings, quickly jotted down insights, etc. A little bit of like my own Obsidian vault, but in public.

So without further ado, please go check out my Github site and look for AIC-Value-Watchlist repository.

I am still finding my way around there so things will start filling out soon. Let me know what you think and any of you have ideas to improve or add, I will be happy to hear from you.
